When should solar panels be cleaned? Questions to ask before booking a service

One cleaning schedule does not suit every roof

How often solar panels need cleaning should be assessed using the equipment manual, site conditions and system operator's advice. The Australian Government's Solar Consumer Guide recommends checking the maintenance schedule and consulting the installer, noting that dusty locations may need additional cleaning. This guidance can inform questions, but overseas intervals or service conditions should not become universal requirements for Thai projects.

Explain changes around the site before requesting a quote

Tell the provider about nearby construction, sources of dust, trees or material that may accumulate on the panels, together with available cleaning and repair history. Photographs from safe locations or images already taken by the maintenance team can explain the site; there is no need to climb onto the roof for new photographs. State any gaps in the information and ask whether a further survey is needed before defining the work.

Separate panel-surface cleaning from electrical inspection

Ask whether the proposal covers surface cleaning alone or also equipment inspection and reporting. Identify the area or panel count using actual system information, including how inaccessible areas and abnormalities found during work will be handled. Ask the provider to confirm a method consistent with the manufacturer's instructions. A promise of complete cleaning does not define the scope of electrical inspection.

Let qualified personnel plan site access and work

The Australian Government guide recommends qualified personnel for cleaning to maintain safety and avoid damage. Building owners should coordinate access, work-zone barriers, building operating hours and the site contact. Let the service team assess weather, work at height and any electrical arrangements needed for the actual task. Do not walk on panels, try spraying them or operate system switches to prepare for the visit without system-specific guidance.

Agree the handover evidence and outstanding items

Before work starts, agree which records will be provided, such as completed areas, before-and-after photographs the team can obtain safely, areas not serviced and observations requiring further professional inspection. Damage or additional work should be presented separately for approval before proceeding. Keep the service date, the method reported by the provider and supporting records in the system history for future planning.

Assess results without a promised percentage increase

Do not judge the work immediately by comparing generation on just one day before and after cleaning, because weather and time periods can differ. Ask the maintenance team to explain an appropriate monitoring method, and do not assume cleaning fixes every fault. When contacting Kintury Energy about after-installation care, bring the system history and these questions to agree the services actually available, including costs and conditions before booking. This article neither guarantees increased generation nor replaces manufacturer cleaning instructions.
