No export does not mean no grid purchases
Solar zero export aims to control power leaving the connection point for the grid. Building owners should distinguish solar energy used on site, additional electricity purchased and power exported. This function alone does not guarantee a zero bill or confirm that the building will have electricity during a grid outage. Before comparing proposals, state whether the project prioritises self-consumption, export control or backup power as well.
Match the description to the equipment and scope
SMA's manual gives an example of limiting export at the connection point, subject to compatible equipment and communications. This is a manufacturer's example, not a universal approval requirement for Thai utilities. Ask for the inverter, meter and controller models and the configuration work included in the proposal. The words zero export in sales material alone cannot confirm that every component works together.
Ask which consumption the system can see
Have the team explain the measurement point on the building drawing in plain language: which buildings it covers and whether other meters or generation sources are involved. Provide information on extensions, new machinery and existing systems. In a hypothetical office and warehouse with separate supply points, office readings could misrepresent the whole property's scope. Match each measurement point to its actual area before interpreting test results.
Use changing loads as a handover question
Suppose machinery pauses at lunchtime while sunlight remains strong. Ask how the control responds and which records the team will use to demonstrate it. Request a site-appropriate test plan designed by the responsible team, including an explanation of lost communications or missing measurements. Do not stop machinery, operate switches or change control settings yourself to prove performance. Do not invent accuracy or response-time requirements in place of the actual equipment specifications.
Receive evidence that can be traced later
Request test records identifying the date, time, measurement point, equipment models, conditions and responsible person, separating completed checks from outstanding work. Keep graph labels and units in screenshots; do not crop an unexplained zero. Ask who must review settings and documents when equipment changes or loads are added. The evidence should help the next team understand the installed system, rather than merely show that an app has this menu.
Prepare for a discussion with Kintury Energy
Bring the proposal, equipment list, available drawings and electricity-use pattern to Kintury Energy within the project's service scope. Organise questions around where control occurs, what proves the result and who handles future changes. Check grid-connection approval and electricity-sale conditions separately from export control. Complete answers support a meaningful comparison of work, but do not guarantee approval or savings for every building.
