Solar warranties: separating equipment, panel performance and installation cover

Read the number of years alongside what is covered

A long solar warranty may apply to only one part of the system. Before using that number to decide, ask what is covered, who provides the cover and which terms apply to the proposed equipment model. Panels, inverters and installation work may have different periods and claim procedures. Reading them separately helps identify whom to contact when a problem occurs, without assuming every system expense is covered for the longest period printed in the brochure.

Product, performance and workmanship cover different issues

The Australian Government's Solar Consumer Guide distinguishes product warranties, panel performance warranties and installation warranties. This is a useful framework, but Australian warranty periods and legal rights are not the terms of a project in Thailand. Request the actual model and installer documents, then create three columns: whom to contact about defective equipment, how output below the panel warranty threshold is assessed, and which installation issues are covered.

Panel performance cover is not a bill-savings guarantee

Performance terms commonly address panel capability over time against specified criteria. They should not be read as a promise to reduce the electricity bill by a fixed amount every month. Savings also relate to when the building uses electricity and the system's arrangements. In a hypothetical example, panels still meet the relevant criteria but a business moves its working hours to night. Savings may change without a panel defect. If an offer separately guarantees savings, request that promise's measurement method and conditions directly.

Ask about costs during a claim

Consider an inverter fault that requires inspection. Ask who receives the report, diagnoses the cause, removes and transports the unit, and pays for reinstallation labour. Separate answers confirmed in the documents from explanations whose costs remain unspecified. Ask for the relevant operating, maintenance, modification and external-event conditions. Do not assume every repair is free merely because a product warranty exists, or open equipment or climb onto the roof to prove the cause yourself.

Build a warranty table that can be found when needed

For each item, record its model, documented serial number, start date, duration, contact and terms document. If different periods begin on purchase, handover or registration, seek confirmation before entering the dates. Check whether registration or additional evidence is required. Keep contact details and service history in the same file, and appoint a backup custodian so that the information is retained when building staff change.

Discuss coverage before agreeing the work

When considering a project with Kintury Energy, send the equipment list and unresolved warranty questions alongside the scope of work. Request the terms for your own offer in writing; this article does not add to or change the company's warranty. When comparing offers, consider coverage, service procedures and possible remaining costs. Do not let a single number of years replace an understanding of the whole system.
