Choose the route for self-consumption or electricity sales
Discuss the solar connection application when defining the project, rather than after the panels are installed. PEA's PPIM system provides a route for generation connected for self-consumption without electricity sales, separate from power-purchase programmes. Do not assume that self-consumption removes the need to coordinate with the utility, or that a connection application automatically permits surplus electricity sales. This article uses PEA's channels to frame questions, not as a complete list of every permit for every project.
Start with the electricity provider and actual system configuration
Prepare the installation site's electricity bill, account-holder name, address, and information on whether the system will operate with the grid or independently. Ask the installer to identify the relevant authority and process. Do not reuse forms for another service area or a different electricity-sales programme simply because both involve solar. Identify multiple meters, multiple buildings or planned system-size changes before preparing the documents.
Agree who submits, revises and follows up
Ask the proposal to identify who collects documents, submits the application, responds to comments and reports progress, separately listing what the owner must sign or provide. If utility coordination is included, ask which stages it covers and who must confirm extra costs or work before proceeding. Clear responsibilities reduce omissions but do not guarantee the authority's approval.
Keep evidence of each stage separate
Separate submitted information, written responses and outstanding corrections. Record the application reference, date, contact person and the document version actually submitted. If told that the application is in progress, ask what is being reviewed and what else is needed. Documents prepared, application submitted and decision received are different statuses; do not use them interchangeably when scheduling work or reporting to management.
Installation completion still requires checking operating conditions
PEA recommends proper connection procedures and post-installation system testing. Ask the installer which inspections or conditions remain outstanding before operation in the proposed configuration. Rooftop panel photographs or a generation dashboard do not replace evidence of the authority's status. Plan the start date around actual inspection results and applicable requirements, rather than treating another project's estimated timeline as confirmation.
Questions for a discussion with Kintury Energy
Bring electricity bills, installation-site information and your electricity-use plan to a project discussion with Kintury Energy. Seek traceable answers to three questions: which application route applies, who handles each stage, and what evidence allows the next step. State any intention to sell electricity at the outset, because the conditions of the power-purchase programme available at that time must be checked separately. This preparation supports planning; it does not confirm electricity-sales rights or approval.
